Process

THE PROCESS:
We like to begin with a PLANNING SESSION. This is the first step in creating a special image for you. We like to meet the person or pet being photographed in advance of the session, while also discussing your design and portrait expectations for your session. We start with a questionnaire that helps us learn more about your child or pet and what makes him/her special. If we are shooting at your home expect some additional questions that will help us understand what to expect regarding lighting and backgrounds.

THE PORTRAIT SESSION:
Our goal at Kim Hartz Photography is to create a portrait that captures your child or pet’s personality in an art piece you will love. Since we will already have a good idea of the final image we’d like to create, this is often the easiest part. Of course, because we are photographing kids or pets – anything can happen! If you choose a LOCATION SESSION we prefer to come to your home where your child or pet is most comfortable. We have found that the best images are captured when your child or pet can act as “normal” as possible. We will shoot both inside (if you prefer) and out using natural light and ask that there be areas of significant shade. We also insist that any outside areas be fenced or secure for your pet’s safety. Some people prefer a STUDIO SESSION. For those babies or pets who acclimate quickly and travel well, a studio session allows us to take a different approach. In the studio we like to get creative with lighting and settings. The sessions are still playful and stress-free – just a bit more controlled. It really depends on the final product you envision as well as your child or pet’s personality.

YOUR IMAGES:
One week after your session, we will create a blog post just for you! It will be a Sneak Peek of our favorite images from your session. One to two weeks after your session you will receive a password to access your proofs within our website. Your gallery will be online for 7 days at which time you will be able to narrow down and choose your favorite images. A fee of $45 is charged to reload your online gallery for an additional day.

ORDERING SESSION:
Custom photography is an investment in art, expertise and a tribute to your family. I am always available, and I will meet with you to finalize your order, look at samples again, and discuss your design goals.
